Wanda Colón Interior Design & Home Staging Success

Wanda Colón, HGTV host and Interior Designer, sharing home staging tips.

Wanda Colón is no stranger to the spotlight. Known for her work on HGTV’s “24 Hour Design” and TLC’s “Home Made Simple,” she has built an impressive career in Interior Design and Home Staging. Now, as a lead designer at Style My Space and an instructor at The Academy of Home Staging & Design, she continues to inspire designers and stagers alike.

In this exclusive interview, Wanda shares her experiences working with high-profile clients, insights into the home staging industry, and how she has carved a name for herself in the competitive world of Interior Design and Home Staging.

From Fine Arts to Interior Design: Wanda’s Career Beginnings

Wanda’s journey into Interior Design began after college with a major project: redesigning a restaurant in Reading, PA. In 2001, she moved to Los Angeles and worked for Interior Motives, where she expanded her expertise in murals and decorative finishes.

Her break into television came when she auditioned for HGTV’s “24 Hour Design.” After multiple callbacks and a strategic follow-up letter, she landed the role and went on to film four seasons. She then transitioned to TLC’s “Home Made Simple,” where she completed six seasons helping homeowners transform their spaces.

Designing for Celebrities: Wanda’s Private Clients

Wanda has worked with A-list clients, including Kelsey Grammer, Paul Stanley, Cher, and Johanna Carson. Despite their fame, she found that their needs were no different from everyday clients.

She recalls an unforgettable moment when she first met Kelsey Grammer:

“I accidentally called him ‘Frasier!’ I was mortified, but he assured me it wasn’t the first time.”

Her favorite celebrity clientPaul Stanley of KISS.

“Paul is an amazing artist. He gave us a lot of creative freedom. When I was battling breast cancer, he donated a huge painting to my cancer fund. I’ll always be grateful for that.”

Where Wanda Finds Design Inspiration

For Wanda, inspiration comes from everywhere—travel, culture, and her clients’ personal stories.

“I want my clients to walk in and say, ‘Wow, this is really me!’”

One of her dream collaborations? Frank Lloyd Wright.

“His designs were revolutionary. Touring the SC Johnson house in Wisconsin reinforced just how visionary he was.”

The Academy of Home Staging & Design: What Sets It Apart?

Wanda is not only an Interior Designer but also an instructor at The Academy of Home Staging & Design. The Academy distinguishes itself by offering a hands-on, six-day training program that includes mentoring and real-world project experience.

Standing Out in a Competitive Industry

Wanda has built a reputation by combining her fine arts background with her design skills.

Her advice for aspiring designers and stagers?

  • Stay educated—new trends and software emerge constantly.
  • Build strong relationships—vendors, contractors, and clients are key.
  • Personalize your approach—customized designs create stronger connections.

“When I shop with clients, I want them to feel comfortable returning to stores and asking for the reps I work with.”

Top Home Staging Tips from Wanda Colón

When it comes to staging homes for sale, Wanda has two key recommendations:

  • Create broad market appeal – Neutral tones and stylish decor attract more buyers.
  • Make a statement – A bold art piece or unique furniture choice adds a memorable touch.

“First impressions matter! The first room a buyer sees sets the tone for the whole house.”

The Future of Interior Design & Home Staging

With TV shows and digital media making design more accessible, Interior Design and Home Staging are no longer exclusive to the wealthy.

“The industry is expanding. More people than ever want beautifully designed spaces, and that’s a great thing for designers and stagers.”
